SYDNEY, N.S. - Stephen Gillis, originally from Sydney, will be the lucky recipient of a new kidney thanks to his Vancouver Spirit peewee hockey team. After learning he needed a transplant, his team of 11 and 12-year-olds created a video in the hopes of finding their coach a donor. That video went viral and netted more than 300,000 views. Gillis, who teaches his team that being a good hockey player goes beyond what they do on the ice, couldn’t be prouder that they stepped up.

DILDO, N.L. – “Most people here don’t care that people find the name funny,” says Dildo native Dean Reid, on the recent media attention the town received. The newfound fame was thanks to American talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, who featured the town and interviews with residents on his late-night ABC show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Kimmel, who was named one of the world’s 100 most influential people by Time Magazine last year, even suggested he could be mayor after noting that Dildo did not currently have someone in office.
Peace by Chocolate set to Grow with Google
ANTIGONISH, N.S. – A story of true resilience and family, it was an honor for Peace by Chocolate founder and CEO, Tareq Hadhad to be selected as the official National Hero Case in the tech-giant's Grow with Google program. According to Hadhad, “The early stages were built on perseverance and the determination of my family to give the town a taste of what we were making in Syria.” but, even with these humble intentions, no one could have anticipated the growth experienced in 2018.
With this program, Google provides a platform for people looking to gain new skills and training in their career though search, advertise and productivity tools, all available online. Looking to the future, what does this mean for the rest of us? Who's to say but, sounds like more chocolate.

HALIFAX, N.S. – Halifax native Lindsay Hilton, a former Mt. Allison University rugby player and current CrossFit athlete, was also born without fully-developed limbs gives a new meaning to the old phrase ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’. Hilton asked her trainers to film her to check her form and it didn’t take long after it was posted that it was picked up by the official Crossfit Facebook page, where the video went viral.
In response to her new audience, she hopes that young people with missing limbs or other disabilities see her and think “I can do that, too.” Even still, she says she could have never anticipated the overwhelming number of people reaching out to tell her how inspiring she is – especially since her form “Isn’t great.”
