An 18-year-old man from Deer Lake has been charged after a police officer was hurt in the line of duty this past weekend.

Just after 1 a.m. last Sunday, the RCMP from Corner Brook were investigating a complaint in Humber Village.

Two police officers were executing an arrest when a vehicle drove by and narrowly missed a marked police unit. The vehicle struck one of the officers, causing minor injury.

The driver took off, but was located a short time later and was suspected of being impaired.

He was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle by a drug, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assault with a weapon and assaulting a police officer.

He was held for court, but has since been released and is due back in provincial court Nov. 27.
