Following a response to a 911 call at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, the RCMP arrested a 33-year-old man from the Bay St. George area and charged him with attempted murder.
According to a prepared release, when police arrived at the scene, the suspect had fled the area. He was later taken into custody around Montana Drive in Stephenville, with the assistance of the RCMP’s Police Dog Service.
A woman was treated at hospital and later released.
Other charges against the suspect include overcoming resistance to commit an indictable offence, assault, break and enter, mischief, theft and uttering threats.
He appeared in Stephenville Provincial Court today and is expected back in court Tuesday afternoon for a bail hearing.
The man cannot be identified as the judge has placed a publication ban on his name.
Police advise the incident is not believed to be random as the individuals are known to each other.
An investigation is ongoing.
