Spurred on by a request for sponsorship of the Joe MacNeil Antique and Unique Car Show taking place this summer, Mayor Tom Rose said it is time for Stephenville to look at a new museum.
His reasoning is that the Joe MacNeil antique car collection could be a great anchor point for such a museum.

While he said the current museum, located in the basement of the Royal Canadian Legion, has some great displays, unfortunately it’s not an ideal or prime location.
Rose noted having a stairway to get down to it is an impediment for those who are disabled, and a large ground floor space is needed to house the MacNeil car collection.
He said with so much to offer in the area from the Mi’kmaq, the French and even the American influence from the Ernest Harmon Air Force Base, there is a lot of culture to promote and they need to get the province onside.
In relation to the Joe MacNeil car show, council approved a $2,000 sponsorship, with Rose noting it is a very popular event.
Coun. Mark Felix agreed with its popularity and wondered if the organizers might consider putting it off annually, rather than every two years as currently takes place.
Felix said it creates a great atmosphere in the town, with Main Street blocked off and lots of people strolling down the street for the event and shopping at stores.
