A motor vehicle accident near Norris Arm has claimed the lives of two people.
Around 12:30 p.m., members of the Lewisporte RCMP were called to the crash scene on the Trans-Canada Highway.
The accident involved two vehicles and two people are dead as a result. Another person was critically injured and two people involved were taken to hospital with injuries. A dog also died in the crash.
That section of the highway is currently open to one lane and police say freezing rain has made conditions slippery. They are asking motorists to proceed with caution through the area and refrain from taking pictures while moving through the scene of the accident.
The investigation is ongoing and an analyst with the RCMP Traffic Services is on site.
An update will be provided once the roads have been cleared.
