ENGLEE, NL – The Town of Englee has an up-to-date fully modernized wharf for the first time in decades.

Construction of a new wharf, with funding provided by the federal government, was completed in December.

Budgell’s Equipment and Rentals – a business based in Triton – was contracted and started construction on the wharf in April 2017.

The work consisted of reconstruction of the existing marginal and finger pier cribwork wharf with new facilities including new reinforced concrete deck, jib crane, wheelguards, ladders, hardwood fenders, mooring cleats, electrical systems and new asphalt parking areas.

The width of the wharf at its head is 26 feet; from the corner of the wharf to the road, it is 52 feet across.

The town’s old wharf, located in the same place in the harbour, needed to be torn down and replaced. Over 50 years old, the wharf was in a state of disrepair and was no longer structurally sound.

Now Englee has the modernized wharf that the harbour authority requires.
