Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers in Newfoundland and Labrador have a new boss.
Curling-native Ches Parsons, a 31-year veteran of the police service, was appointed Assistant Commission of the provincial detachment. In a release issued by the RCMP, Parsons said coming home is the proudest moment of his career.
“My number one priority is to ensure the RCMP continues to provide quality policing services to the residents and communities of our province,” Parsons stated. “What is clearly evident to me as I settle in is that our police officers and employees share that priority, and we have world-class policing expertise right here in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
Before coming home, Parsons had served provincially in Ontario, Alberta, and the Northwest Territories. In the latter two, he worked with First Nations and Metis communities.
His career also included international deployments in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Far East.
His operational policing roles have included serious and organized crime, major crimes, emergency response, and national security, most recently serving as the Director General of Federal Policing National Security.
