ST. JOHN’S – The provincial government is taking a multi-phased approach for public consultations in advance of the next budget.

The first phase of the consultation process begins today and will give stakeholders and members of the public an opportunity to provide input through written submission by email or mail.

The second phase will take the form of an online consultation hosted at EngageNL.ca from Jan. 8, 2018 to the beginning of February.

The third phase will be the more traditional in-person public consultations and industry roundtable events, which will take place at various locations around the province, starting on Jan. 5, 2018. Dates and times will be released early in the new year.

The provincial government says it is still on track with projected revenues and has made progress in cutting the province’s annual deficit, but spending is still unsustainable.

The focus of the pre-budget consultations will be on identifying opportunities for efficiencies in government operations and service delivery.
