OTTAWA – Newfoundland and Labrador Justice and Public Safety Minister Andrew Parsons is in Ottawa today for the Federal, Provincial and Territorial Conference of Ministers responsible for Human Rights.

It is the first time in 29 years that ministers responsible for human rights have met to discuss international human rights and their implementation in Canada.

The conference will focus on Canada’s possible accession of additional human rights treaties and strengthening the intergovernmental and institutional framework for implementing Canada's existing international human rights obligations.

As well, the ministers will meet with civil society and Indigenous representatives to hear their perspectives on Canada's human rights priorities.
