A fire investigator, assisted by a local firefighter, was sifting through the rubble of the former Piccadilly RCMP detachment on Tuesday morning despite wet conditions.

They were looking for clues to the cause of the fire, but as of Tuesday afternoon police didn’t have any update on the investigation.

The fire was reported to authorities early Monday, at 4:43 a.m. and well ablaze at that time, according to a neighbour who lives nearby.

In the story that appeared in Tuesday’s Western Star, it was stated that after it was vacated by the RCMP when regionalization took place decades ago, the Port au Port Economic Development Association operated out of the building for a while until that organization folded.

Phyllis Doucette of the Port au Port Economic Development Association said the organization did not fold, that it only sold its building.
