Michael Tremblett, Northern Arm’s lone councillor, isn’t by himself anymore.
Four candidates – Glen Dawe, Imelda Norman, Robert Norman, and Gerald Sceviour – who were nominated on Oct. 30 for a possible by-election — have been acclaimed. Three of the four were sworn in during the new council’s first meeting Nov. 6.
The call for nominations went out when of Northern Arm Mayor Lloyd Hunter resigned Sept. 22, and five other councilors followed suit days later, alleging a “toxic” work environment within council.
Tremblett, who is now the mayor, was the only one to stay on council.
While he didn’t plan on leading the group, Tremblett said he was asked to take on the role by the new members. The first meeting was about getting council sworn in and bringing the councillors up to speed on their duties.
“The next thing is to set up a regular schedule for meetings and so forth,” he said. “But we’re back in operation, and I’m looking forward to taking care of the backlog and dealing with the regular stuff required of council.”
Nomination day for the two remaining seats will be Nov. 20, and an election, if needed, will take place Dec. 11.
