The provincial government launched its online pre-budget consultations for this year’s budget today, Jan. 12.
The province is looking for advice on how it can find efficiencies in delivering services.
Stakeholders and members of the public are asked to offer their ideas and insights on how spending can be reduced while continuing to to return the province to financial stability.
Members of the public and industry stakeholders can contribute to the online pre-budget process at www.engagenl.ca.
As well, six in-person consultation sessions in five regions, which will be hosted by provincial ministers, are scheduled for this month.
The first will be held at the Capital Hotel in St. John’s on Jan. 18 from 7-9 p.m. and will be hosted by Finance Minister Tom Osborne.
A second session will also be held on the same day at the Albatross Hotel in Gander from 7-9 p.m. It will be hosted by Health Minister John Haggie.
Two more sessions will be held on Jan. 22. One will take place at St. Joseph’s Hall in Grand Falls-Windsor, hosted by Advanced Education, Skills and Labour Minister Al Hawkins, while the other will be held at Hotel North Two in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, hosted by Children, Seniors and Social Development Minister Lisa Dempster. Both of those consultations are scheduled for 7-9 p.m.
Fisheries and Land Resources Minister Gerry Byrne will host a session at the Corner Brook Civic Centre on Jan. 25 from 7:30-9:30 p.m.
Osborne will host the final session at Bishop Field Elementary in St. John’s on Jan. 30 from 7-9 p.m.
The provincial government will also be organizing industry roundtable sessions in the coming weeks.
