LABRADOR CITY, N.L. — Labrador MP Yvonne Jones and Labrador West MHA Graham Letto were in Labrador West recently with checkbooks in hand.
In total $3.3 million has been allocated to improve wastewater treatment. The provincial government is contributing $1.2 million, the federal share is up to $1.1 million and the town will contribute close to $1 million.
Jones and Letto were joined by Deputy Mayor Fabian Benoit, other council and government officials, as well as interested members of the public for the presentation.
“This contribution by all levels of government will see the significant improvement in infrastructure that will benefit residents and businesses,” said Letto, who made the announcement on behalf of the minister of Municipal Affairs and the Environment.
Jones told those gathered, “By investing in water and wastewater, people in Labrador City will have modern and reliable wastewater treatment what will help to protect the local environment.”

Benoit says the town will benefit and this will help them achieve the new standards of wastewater treatment that are coming for Canadian Municipalities.
Work on the improvements has begun.
