PARADISE, N.L. — The St. John's Regional Fire Department's Mount Pearl and Paradise stations were dispatched to a residential structure fire on Howard Avenue in Paradise early Monday morning.

The SJRFD arrived just before 6 a.m. to find a house and detached garage on fire. It's now well under control and the investigation into its cause is underway.

Platoon Chief Chris Jefford of the St. John's Regional fire department said there were no injuries as the owners of the home were away at a cabin. He added the home suffered significant damage as the fire had been burning for some time in the basement.

While a neighbour reported that the fire appeared to have been deliberately set, Jefford said no cause had been determined yet.

Eastern Health paramedics were on site.

More details as they become available.
