GRAND BANK, N.L. — A 29-year-old Fortune man has been arrested and faces multiple charges after a break in at a Newfoundland Power substation in the Greenhill area of Grand Bank.
Burin Peninsula RCMP received a report of a break and enter in progress just before 10:30 a.m on Oct. 3.
Once on the scene, police located and arrested a 29-year-old Fortune man near the site.  A search warrant of his vehicle was executed and a quantity of copper wire was located.
The man, who was not identified in a release from the RCMP, is facing charges of possession of property over $5,000 obtained by crime, possession of break and enter tools, break and enter with intent, and mischief causing danger to life.
He was released from custody and is scheduled to attend court on Dec. 11.
The incident caused a loss of electrical service to a large number of residents for approximately 11 hours.
The RCMP warns this type of criminal activity is very dangerous in such high voltage areas.  Their actions can have fatal consequences for both themselves and the employees who work on site.
