TAYLOR'S BAY, N.L. — Bones discovered on a beach in the community of Taylor's Bay were not human, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has determined.
A woman, who now resides outside of the province, contacted police on Aug. 1 after finding what she believed to be human remains on the beach. She took pictures of the discovery and brought them to police.
In an email to The Southern Gazette, RCMP said there would be no further investigation into the matter.
Corporal Jolene Garland, media relation officer for the RCMP B Division, explained later the only information received by police is the bones were not human remains.
"There may have been a determination but nothing that has been shared with the RCMP," she said, when asked if the bones were further identified.
"The RCMP is only concerned over criminality or sudden death involving human remains in cases like these, the OCME examines the remains and will inform if the remains are human or not. Those are the only details we have."
The Southern Gazette contacted the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to see if any further details were known but did not receive a response by deadline.
