ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP on Friday stopped a suspected impaired driver and ended up nabbing both the driver and the passenger in the vehicle for allegedly stealing poppy donation cans in the area earlier this month.
The male driver, 31, and the passenger, a 30-year-old woman, were charged in connection with the reported poppy can thefts, and the police investigation also led to other theft-related charges, the RCMP stated Tuesday in a news release.
The investigation into drug-impaired driving against the driver is continuing. The driver was released from custody and has a court appearance on the theft charges on Feb. 12.
The woman, who had an outstanding warrant for her arrest from the RNC in St. John’s, was held in custody.
She appeared in Grand Falls-Windsor provincial court on Monday and was released on court-ordered conditions.
The RCMP said public assistance in providing tips led to police identifying and locating the suspects.
