A home on Suez Street in St. John’s was extensively damaged by fire Tuesday night but there didn’t appear to be anyone seriously injured.

Firefighters from the St. John’s Regional Fire Department arrived on scene at about 7 p.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the home. As they were laying hoses, flames started shooting out the front of the home.

They had the fire knocked down fairly quickly but the upper level of the home appeared gutted as the fire may have been burning for some time before it was noticed.

It was unknown whether anyone was home in the two-apartment house when the fire started but the Red Cross says four people have been displaced. A mother and two children are being helped by the Red Cross while the fourth person, a man who rented the other unit, has made his own arrangements with family or friends.

The RNC is investigating the incident.
