A house in Burnt Cove was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene this morning.
The Witless Bay volunteer fire department received the call at 3:56 a.m. and when a member of the department who lives nearby arrived, he found heavy flames and smoke coming from the entire home.
Firefighting efforts were hampered as water had to be tanked into the scene due to a lack of a water supply. Light winds, however, prevented the fire from spreading to a large camper trailer and ATV but both received some damage.
By the time the blaze had been nearly extinguished, the home had completely collapsed and burned into the basement.
The homeowners were away at the time and were not injured but a family cat is still unaccounted for.
No information was available as to what may have caused the fire.
