ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — In conjunction with this being Fire Prevention Week in the province, the Rotary Club of St. John’s and the St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) presented their annual Rotary Firefighter of the Year award during the club’s weekly luncheon meeting at the Sheraton Newfoundland hotel on Thursday afternoon.

Rotary Club of St. John’s president Paddy Greene (presented the awards to this year’s recipients, SJRFD firefighter Jim O’Toole and Capt. Ron Pomeroy.

They were nominated by fellow firefighters Steve Erbland and Matt Leonard. O’Toole, a 14-year firefighter, and Pomeroy, a 27-year veteran, were recognized for their ongoing work with the SJRFD Burn Fund program, which assists fire burn victims and their families.
