ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — One of two men charged as a result of a major RNC drug bust has been re-arrested.
Tyler Downey, who had been granted bail along with co-accused Jake Long after they were originally arrested in September, was picked up by police Wednesday for allegedly breaching one of his release conditions. He made a quick appearance in provincial court in St. John’s Thursday morning, where his case was postponed until Friday.
Downey and Long were charged in connection with a police investigation called Operation Ragged, which began in March after a series of gunshots were fired at residences on the northeast Avalon. The police operation resulted in the seizure of a loaded .44-calibre magnum handgun and six other guns, one of them reported stolen in New Brunswick more than 20 years ago.
Officers also seized bulletproof vests, masks, brass knuckles, a taser, a machete, two kilograms of cocaine, more than 1,000 non-pharmaceutical pills, three high-end vehicles, about $200,000 in cash, a money counter, an aluminum bat and a GPS vehicle.
Long faces about two dozen charges, including trafficking, theft and numerous counts of breaching court orders, while Downey faces six weapon-related charges in addition to his most recent charge of breaching a court order. The two men are scheduled to make their next joint court appearance Dec. 6.
