The Mary’s Harbour RCMP lit up the night with its 17th annual Children’s Wish Tree on Tuesday, Dec. 4.
The initiative has raised over $16,000 for the Children’s Wish Foundation to date.
The funding has helped children like Robert Holley from Mary’s Harbour, who was only seven years old when he had a bone marrow failure. Robert was granted a wish and received a Sony package including a TV, sound system, PlayStation and a recliner.
Victoria Tatchell attended the event in memory of her sister, Monica Tatchell, who died at the age of four after being diagnosed with stage four Wilms’ tumor. Monica’s wish was to have a bedroom set for her and her older sister. Sadly, she passed away before the wish could be granted.
The Children’s Wish Tree starts out with all red bulbs and for every $10 raised a bulb is turned white.
Fundraising for the project will continue until Old Christmas Day on Jan. 6.
