BONAVISTA PENINSULA, N.L. — RCMP have seized a motorcycle and charged a man with excessive speeding on the Trans Canada Highway, near the Bonavista Peninsula highway turnoff.
At about 11:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, Clarenville RCMP observed a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed, a Facebook post said.
Police say they locked in a radar speed reading of 164 km/hr. The speed limit is 100 km/hr in the area near the Discovery Trail highway exit.
The motorcyclist is a 52 year-old man from Little Catalina, who was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for exceeding the limit by 51 km/hr or more.
Police seized and impounded the motorcycle for three days and suspended his driver’s licence for seven days.
RCMP NL reminds drivers to obey the posted speed limit. Consequences for a first offence for excessive speeding include a $520 fine, an immediate three-day vehicle impoundment, and a seven-day driver’s licence suspension.
