Current and former directors of the Placentia West Development Association met to celebrate 40 years of service to the communities of the region.

Long service awards were presented to Ann Murphy and Henry Moores, both with more than 35 years of service to the association, during the June 7 event.

A plaque listing more than 200 residents who have served as directors of the group was also unveiled.

As well, the founding executive – Earl Reid, George Finlay, Harold Murphy, Eric Hayden and Henry Moores – were recognized.

A speech by current chair Elizabeth Murphy outlined the achievements of the association over the last four decades, including fishery infrastructure development, community recreation buildings and services and activities in crafts and tourism development.

Special guests included Placentia West-Bellevue MHA Jeff Dwyer, former MHA Clyde Jackman, and Joe Whiffen, former rural development specialist with the Department of Industry, Trade and Rural Development.
