Students of Exploits Valley High in Grand Falls-Windsor are getting ready to take to the stage and perform the spectacular Broadway hit musical Rock of Ages: High School Edition.
According to promotional material, the musical is set on L.A.’s infamous Sunset Strip in 1987. The students will tell the story of a city boy named Drew and a small-town girl named Sherrie. Both are in L.A. chasing their dreams of making it big and falling in love. Combining crowd-pleasing music and a story with heart, the musical takes the audience back to the time of big bands with big egos playing big guitar solos and sporting even bigger hair.
The show’s director, Dawn Oldford, says more than 40 students are involved in the musical and are eager to showcase the show’s many hits.
“People can expect to see a lot of dance... we’ve got some great musicians involved, both singing and in the band,” she said.
Practising since October 2018, Oldford said the students are hoping for a full house at all three performances.
The musical is being staged May 3 and 4 at 7 p.m. and May 5 at 2:30 p.m. at the Gordon Pinsent Centre for the Arts.
