Animal cruelty case under investigation

A search warrant was executed on a home in the west end of St. John’s after a complaint of animal cruelty, according to a report from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC).

The RNC responded to a complaint of animal cruelty at a home in the west end of St. John's Thurday.

Police did not provide details on the nature of the case.

The City of St. John’s Humane service contacted the RNC shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday for help dealing with the complaint, and the criminial investigation and patrol divisions, as well as the forensic identification section, took part in the response along with outside agencies.

The investigation is ongoing. The RNC, humane services, the province’s animal welfare consultant and the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer are co-operating on the case.
