Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor closed to most visitors

GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR, NL – Several cases of gastrointestinal illness have triggered an immediate implementation of precautions meant to protect patients at Carmelite House.

A public service announcement issued by Central Health this afternoon stated that visitors are not permitted in the facility but are encouraged to call 709-292-2528 to check on their loved ones. Visitors are also asked to be sure to wash their hands after arriving and before leaving the facility, and to avoid all Central Health buildings if they are experiencing symptoms of gastrointestinal illness themselves.

Current policies regarding visitors do not apply to family members visiting palliative care patients.

Updates will be posted to the Central Health website, as well as on Twitter at @CentralHealthNL.
