Man charged with using firearm to hold woman against her will

A St. John’s man was arrested Monday night on charges of forcible confinement of a woman and use of a firearm in committing the offence.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to a call from the east end of St. John’s around 9 p.m., where a woman alleged she had been held against her will by a man she knew.

As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody for a court appearance today.

The charges against him are forcible confinement, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, use of a firearm in the commission of an offence, assault with a weapon and breach of court orders.

RNC officers recovered a handgun at the scene.

The RNC said the female victim received minor injuries during the altercation.

RNC Forensic Identification Services members assisted in the investigation.
