Suspect faces raft of charges after reports he was riding ATV with shotgun

Gordon J. Burton of Miles Cove was arrested Wednesday night by Springdale RCMP following an incident earlier in the evening.

Police responded to a complaint of Burton being intoxicated, having assaulted another male and later seen in possession of a firearm. He was also reported to have been riding in the community on an all-terrain vehicle while holding a shotgun.

Burton was located and arrested by police near his residence in Miles Cove and has been charged with pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, uttering threats, unlawful possession of a firearm, assault, driving while disqualified, and breach of probation.

Burton appeared in Grand Falls-Windsor provincial court Thursday afternoon and was released on a recognizance with strict conditions to remain away from the communities of Port Anson and Miles Cove.

He is expected be back in court Aug. 10 in Grand Falls-Windsor.
