The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary have confirmed in a news release Monday afternoon a 20-year-old man died following a single-vehicle accident that happened on the Pouch Cove highway in Shoe Cove, just South of Pouch Cove late Sunday night.
The collision happened just before midnight and left the car with extensive damage and sitting in the front yard of a nearby home.
The deceased was the lone person in the vehicle according to the RNC who confirmed the driver's death at the scene.
Members of the Pouch Cove volunteer fire department and RNC officers could be seen examining the damaged car as distraught family members and friends stood nearby.
At least two Eastern Health ambulances were also seen arriving and leaving the area.
Police closed the road until accident investigators could document the scene.
The investigation of the collision is ongoing.
The RNC's Accident Investigation Section ask that anyone with information to assist the investigation contact the RNC or Crime Stoppers.
