It seems the majority of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians lack the confidence that bullying and harassment in the province’s House of Assembly will be appropriately addressed by government.

A Corporate Research Associates Inc. telephone poll of 400 adults conducted from May 3 to May 17 found that 55 per cent of respondents felt that the issue would be dealt with. The poll also determined that more female residents feel that way than do their male counterparts.

The poll is considered accurate to within ± 4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.

Late last month, complaints of harassment were filed against Liberal MHAs Eddie Joyce and Dale Kirby, both of whom were removed from Liberal caucus and now sit as independents in the House of Assembly. The investigations into the complaints are ongoing.
