ST. ANTHONY, N.L. — Phones were ringing all through the evening as the St. Anthony Volunteer Fire Department accepted pledges for its significant yearly fundraiser.
On Nov. 6, the department hosted its 26th annual telethon, raking in $21,551.70.
At the fire hall, pledges were taken by volunteers and were read out by fire department staff for a broadcast streamed through the Town of St. Anthony’s Facebook page.
While pledges were being taken upstairs, downstairs about a dozen local musicians provided entertainment.
Every pledge was entered into a draw for an assortment of prizes donated by local businesses and residents.
Some of the prizes were drawn during the broadcast while others will be drawn in December once all pledges are paid.
Top prizes to be drawn later included a PAL Airlines ticket for one, donated by PAL Airlines, with a pair of mittens donated by Ruby Sheppard in memory of Albert Sheppard; a 40-inch Samsung TV donated by Cohens, with slippers donated by Marie Loder; and a children’s winter jacket donated by Arctic Cat, with a Blu-ray player donated by the Bargain Shop.
Other prizes drawn that evening included donations from Newfoundland Optical, the Northern Drifters Snowmobile Club, and the St. Anthony Recreation Department, among countless others.
On its Facebook page, the fire department thanked everyone who helped in any way to make the event a success and to everyone who made a pledge.
