Two men from the east coast of the province have been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 after the truck they were in was stopped on the west coast on Tuesday.

An officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s Traffic Services West observed the truck speeding on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Deer Lake. The officer stopped the vehicle and discovered it had been stolen from the St. John’s area in 2017.

The driver, a 45-year-old from Kelligrews, and the passenger, a 40-year-old from Mount Pearl, are scheduled to appear in provincial court in Corner Brook on May 14.

The driver was also charged with driving without an insurance policy and for having an improper plate attached to the vehicle.
