HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, N.L. — The Trans Labrador Highway could be whole again as early as Sunday, according to the provincial government.
The Department of Transportation and Works sent out an update on the roadwork and helicopter service being provided.
Crews arrived on site yesterday to begin repairing the damaged roadway and the work is expected to take a few days, depending on work progress and water levels. According to the department they are working on installing new culverts.
Helicopter service began today, June 26 for people stranded by the washout, which happened on June 24.
According to the department, the helicopter will travel between the parking area near the Crooks Lake depot, about 150 kilometres south of Happy Valley-Goose Bay and the airport in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
Helicopters will be leaving every two hours, starting at 9 a.m. and running until 5 p.m.
The update said priority will be given to residents travelling for medical appointments and work commitments. Other travellers will be accommodated as space allows.
