CLARENVILLE, N.L. — Clarenville RCMP confirmed to The Packet they’ve identified a threat made against one of the schools in the area.

The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District (NLESD) confirmed to The Packet that the school in question was Riverside Elementary.

"The administration of Riverside Elementary  in Clarenville was informed by the RCMP of a potential threat to the school for this morning,"  reads an email to The Packet from NLESD.

"In the interest of student and staff safety and based upon consultation with the RCMP, the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District closed all schools in the Clarenville system for at least the morning. "

Clarenville RCMP say the individual has been taken into custody and will appear in Clarenville provincial court this afternoon.

NLESD says that all three schools, Riverside Elementary, Clarenville Middle, and Clarenvilel High, will reopen.

"Once the RCMP informed us that the individual involved in this matter was in custody and there was no further threat, schools were informed they could plan to open for the afternoon session," the email reads.

The Packet will have more information as it becomes available.
