HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, NL – The last of four missing snowmobilers travelling from Hopedale to their home community of Natuashish has been found.
According to the Labrador RCMP, Jonathan Rich was located safely around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20.
The RCMP are thanking all searchers from Natuashish and Hopedale, Fire Emergency Services Newfoundland and Labrador and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre for their efforts during the search.
Three snowmobilers from Natuashish have been found but a fourth remains missing.
According to the Labrador RCMP, four men left Hopedale around suppertime on Sunday, March 18 to travel to Natuashish but were reported overdue at 1:30 a.m. the following morning.
Ground search and rescue from Hopedale and Natuashish were mobilized but their efforts were impeded by blizzard-like conditions.
Two of the four men were found on Monday afternoon and were fine. Another man was located last night and will require medical attention.
Police say search efforts are continuing today, March 20, for the other man. Conditions in the area are still rough, however, with high winds creating blowing snow and whiteouts.
Air support from Happy Valley-Goose Bay is currently on hold due to the weather. Air support is en route from Gander to Goose Bay.
