Jeff Myrick, senior manager of communications and public affairs with Emera Newfoundland and Labrador, confirmed there has been a fatality on the Maritime Link project.

The RCMP said the workplace accident took place at about 3:30 p.m. today. Local authorities continue to investigate on the site.
Myrick said the company is still gathering details and, effective immediately, it has asked all contractors to stand down so Emera can take the time to investigate this incident and to support the contractor, its employees and all other workers on the project.
He said the safety of their employees, contractors and the public has always been and continues to be its number 1 priority.
