Doris Toms — Springdale

Doris Toms
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Doris Mary (Candow) Toms announce her peaceful passing at Green Bay Health Centre in Springdale, NL on November 7, 2014, aged 66. She was predeceased by her parents, Ruth and Gordon Candow of Curling, NL and father-in-law Bert Toms of La Scie, NL. “Doe” –as she was known to all those close to her- was a great lover of the outdoors. As an avid hiker, canoer, kayaker and berry-picker, she was always game for “lunch and a boil-up” at the slightest opportunity. She taught school in the Green Bay area for many years and was a devoted member of the WI in her retirement. As a volunteer in many leadership roles for youth, including Scouting, Guiding and the Duke of Edinburgh Award program, she instilled her love of nature in many others over the years. She was passionate about all of her hobbies, including quilting, gardening, knitting and cooking. Left with fond and loving memories are her husband Robert Toms, sons Andrew (Bridget Burns) of Guelph, ON and Jonathan (Stephanie Sorensen) of Kamloops, BC and mother-in-law Jean Toms of Springdale. Also leaving to mourn are her brother David (Christine), sisters Karen (Glen Carpenter), Ann (David Kellett), Jill (Glen Power), Janice Candow, a large circle of beloved nieces and nephews and extended family, as well as many close friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Daffodil Place 70 Ropewalk Lane PO Box 8921 St. John’s, NL A1B 3R9 Phone: 709-753-6520
