Obituary Dr. Norman Lush MD Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on May 11th, 2018 in the presence of family and friends, Dr. Norman Lush, age 88. Dr. Lush was born in St. John’s, NL and grew up in Harbour Grace and Gander. Leaving behind with cherished memories his daughters: Nancy, Sandra Simpson (Malcolm), Janet Lush Graham and Joanne MacDonald (Leslie); grandchildren who he enjoyed immensely: Griffin, Alex and Zoe Simpson, Amanda and Mackenzie Graham; brother Max (Nora) and their family, Gander. Predeceased by wife Greta(nee Wrathall); parents John and Henrietta Lush; sisters: Ruth and Blanche and brothers: Fred and Peter. Dr. Lush completed his Pre-Med at Mount Allison in 1954; Post Graduate St. John’s in 1962 and in 1963 entered the Montreal Neurological Institute Hospital graduating with F.R.C.P. (C). He returned to Newfoundland where he had a distinguished career as Neurologist spanning several decades. He worked in all the major hospitals on the island and was President of the NL Medical Association in 1993. His long time friend Dr. Mark Stefanelli described him as “The father of Neurology in Newfoundland & Labrador” Dr. Lush was a founding member of Wheelchair Sports and The Hub. He was a member of the Order of Canada and received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal. He was a proud Newfoundlander and Labradorian, a leader, a visionary and someone who cared deeply about his community and province. His contribution to the medical community has been significant, and to the disability community outstanding. He was a passionate man who loved his family, pets, fishing, working in his greenhouse and gardening. He loved the simple pleasures of life and enjoyed a good joke, telling stories and sharing a cup of tea with friends. For many years enjoyed his annual rabbit catching trip with his brothers and friends across Gander Lake. The Family of Dr. Lush would like to thank his close friend Danny O’Neill for his ongoing support as well as caregivers Vince Bezanson and Carson Bastow and staff of 6 East St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital. A very special thank you to Dr. Mark Stefanelli for his long time friendship and medical support. Funeral service was held May 14th.
