Gladys Hayley (Benson) — Fort St. John

Gladys Hayley (Benson)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving Mother, Gladys Pearl Hayley (Benson) at the age of 88, passed away peacefully on June 16th, 2018 in the Peace Villa Residential Care home in Fort St. John, British Columbia Canada. Born June 28, 1929, in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland to parents Nehemiah Frost Benson and Sarah Jane (Maidment). Gladys grew up on Gilbert Street and after marrying, devoted most of her time caring for her children in their family home on Grenfell Heights, where she became a trusted loving friend to many. Being near to family was everything to Gladys and with her husband Rex, they moved to Edmonton Alberta in their retirement years to be closer to many of their large family. Gladys was a proud Matriarch of the Hayley clan, her enduring infectious smile, and quick-witted humour, with just a splash of sarcasm, was adorned by all that were fortunate to call her Mom, “Mudder”, “The boss”, Nan, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, friend and neighbour. She had such love for family and friends and will be so dearly missed, we cherish the memories and the profound impact that she has had on us all. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Rex and siblings David, Francis, and Chesley. She is survived by her cherished children, Sandra, David, Linda (Glenda), Lisa, Linda, Brenda, Gina, Glenn, Rex (Bud), Rhonda and Wayde. She is also survived by her loving siblings Marion, Phyllis, Fred, Harry, Doris, Margaret and Roger. Gladys’s very large extended loving family includes five generations numbering 41 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home, in Edmonton 16204 Fort Rd NW, Edmonton, AB T5Y 6A2 on Saturday, June 30th. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
