Concerns over quarry access

Dear Editor: We, as residents of Embree, are beginning to believe that some of the members of the Town Council may be willing to put aside the personal safety of their residents and destroy the property values of others to get access to an area that they want to use for a quarry. Their first intent was to cross private property to access this land. When they were told they were not going to get access this way, they have now decided to apply for a small piece of crown land which cuts across the front of our property. This road will cut across the front of our property, go down on an angle, then in between our property and that of our next door neighbor. I wonder, how would these councilors feel if this was their situation. Would they be satisfied? I think not! This is on the main road through town and not on a side street.

Dear Editor:

We, as residents of Embree, are beginning to believe that some of the members of the Town Council may be willing to put aside the personal safety of their residents and destroy the property values of others to get access to an area that they want to use for a quarry.

This access will be located in an area that has very little site distance on the lower end toward Little Burnt Bay and is an area where there have been several near miss accidents already. Think of the safety of our residents and that of the motoring public. This is not just a private driveway, it is a commercial access! It is time that we the residents of Embree and the residents of Little Burnt Bay, for safety reasons, object to this proposal. There is an alternative. The town can access this quarry from a road that is now being used by a commercial operator in the area. All they would have to do is branch off from this road and construct their own road.

Voice your objection by contacting the town council office at 535-8712, the Department of Transportation and Works at 535-6487 and Crown Lands at 256-1095.
