From our house to yours

My dad was awoken from his slumber early Christmas morning by an odd crunching sound coming from somewhere in the house.

He made his way from the bedroom to the living room and there I was.

A much-earlier riser then, especially on the biggest day of the year, I apparently could wait no more.

Using one present, a plastic saw that was part of a construction set, I was tackling the thick, heavy cardboard box of another – a bright yellow Tonka dump truck!

Memories are what Christmas is all about. We all have the ones that stand out in our minds.

When you’re a kid, it’s all about the presents. As an adult, it becomes about watching the wide-eyed excitement of children as they open theirs.

Christmas is a special time of year – a time to celebrate with family and friends.

For many, it can be particularly daunting occasion as the bills pile high and the wallets empty out. It can be a stressful time of worry and anxiety.

But amidst all the hustle and bustle, as the day approaches, you can actually feel a whimsical joy in the air. You hear it the voices of complete strangers as they wish you a Merry Christmas. It’s genuine. It’s a magic that can make even the grinchiest of grinches smile.

The late, great country singer Buck Owens summed up the spirit of the season in song:

Merry Christmas from our house to your house

Merry Christmas from our kids to yours

May happiness be round your Christmas tree

May your disappointments be few

Merry Christmas from our house to your house

May peace and good will follow you

And may you be blessed with health and happiness

Merry Christmas from our house to yours

May all of your loved ones be near you

And may all of your spirits be bright

May all of your dreams be what this Christmas brings

Merry Christmas from our house to yours

To all our readers, we wish you the merriest of Christmases with memories that will last a lifetime.
