My name is Rachel Gilbert. Originally from Texas, I came to Newfoundland in 2014 and studied at MUN’s St. John’s campus for two years before transferring to Grenfell where I am working towards a bachelor of fine arts (visual arts).

I currently drive Grenfell’s Saturday shopping shuttle.

With this new service, I take students from campus to the Corner Brook Plaza, Murphy Square, downtown and Coleman’s Garden Market 1-4 p.m. on Saturdays.

As a student without transportation of my own, I understand the importance of offering a service like this, especially during the winter months when walking to and from the store can be difficult. I also understand what it’s like to be on a strict budget, where paying for taxis around the city can become a burden.

Students have told me that this free service is really making a difference.

My favourite part about my job is being able to help make other students’ lives easier.

I have met many new people and look forward to chatting with passengers every Saturday.
