They didn't continue fiber op the last section of the exchange to us. Their company seems to have changed their focus from customer satisfaction to shareholder profits, leaving us with no alternative supplier and no satisfactory service. Internet by Bell here is dial-up on copper lines, which is useless with today's Internet.
To compound the problem there are no available telephone numbers in our area that can be ported to VOIP suppliers, leaving us with only Bell. I have been at this problem with phone, TV, and Internet with Bell since 2002 and no success at all on any front. Another problem is with YOU. I contacted Skype to get a Skype number so I could set up a home phone through Skype, which by the way is allowed in most countries in the world. Imagine my surprise when I found out that you do not allow Skype numbers in Canada. We are paying $196/month for very basic home phone landline and my basic cellphone service, $61.50 for my wife's cell phone, $55.00 Bell Satellite Television basic TV package. All of these are Bell and not offered any discounts or the bundling option. Add to that $85.00 for Xplornet satellite Internet service. So our monthly charge for basic service is $397.50 or approximately $4800/YR. Reason is, no competition! Those of us that are living in areas like mine should at least be able to port our phone number to give us some better options for better service than Bell is providing.
I have come to the conclusion that CRTC is there only for the benefit of the large corporations and definitely not for the people who are held to ransom by communications monopolies.
Added to that; this year the provincial government is charging us a levy for the privilege of living here with all of this poor service, high fuel and food prices. Feels like Nottingham during King Arthur's time. Hard to be living on a fixed income in Newfoundland today.
