Recovering from triple bypass surgery I recently had to be admitted for two weeks to Carbonear Hospital. While the doctors and nurses on the most part were great I wish to bring up the matter of patient visitations.
I for the life of me cannot understand why their isn't more done about how many visitors are allowed at once per patient and how long people are allowed to stay and why security can't enforce these rules, as is done on the mainland.
I can't see the nurses enforcing this as they are way too busy. However we do have security in our hospitals and they should do patrols to see how many people are in a room at a time and enforce the 'visiting hours are over' rule. Must be terrible in a ward room with four patients!
I had a lady in a bed beside mine who one day had seven visitors at once, staying a total of eight hours straight. Even when their poor mother fell asleep, they stayed chatted, ate, played video games, etc.
I could not get any rest and even though I put up with it as long as I could, I reported it to a nurse when my nerves were frayed. She explained to them there is supposed to be only two visitors per patient at a time. They continued to do it anyway. Even a sign on the door means nothing.
Why don't people understand that you are in hospital for a reason — to get rest and recover — and their loved ones don't need the whole family beside them all day. Surely they could be more considerate of others and their family member and other patients in the room to get the rest they need to recover.
