Recently there was an article in The Telegram (or the Cape Breton Post — I mostly read both.)
The article concerned a ferry boat — I believe it is/was named The Cat — running a schedule from I believe the Halifax area to somewhere in Maine where the local government is upgrading the dock facilities to better serve travellers.
Looking at a map of the Eastern Seaboard, it would indicate that from St. John’s, to the Maine area is almost a straight line, with other stops in between to be considered.
And I’m thinking it would be an interesting travel holiday trip for local people.
Should either the provincial government travel people or the St. John’s city tourism department arrange meetings with the promotors of The Cat ferry service to possibly add Corner Brook and St. John’s to its itinerary?
This could lead to many local Newfoundlanders maybe boarding in St John’s, with their motor vehicles, driving off and touring one of The Cat ferry stops along the way enjoying themselves and returning on the return, turn-around trip?
This could also lead to other tourists doing the trip from away at The Cat’s various dockings, visiting Newfoundland with an assured return trip.
We are crying for tourists. Has anyone checked into this?
I would venture to say this is a trip waiting to happen soon.
Jim Campbell,
St. John’s
