SPRINGDALE, NL — Cieara Chatman gave hockey a try about seven years ago, and fell in love with the game.
The now 15-year-old from Springdale started out as a player, but was somehow convinced to put on the pads and try her hand at keeping pucks out of the net rather than putting them in it.
Cieara is a goalie for the under-20 Springdale Bravettes female team, midgets and AAA Female Central Ice Pak. She also plays on a private team.
When asked what she loves about hockey and what her hopes for hockey are, she replies with “I love being challenged and I love to challenge in return.
“It’s a rush when there’s a breakaway and I push myself to come out and challenge it.”
She also loves the social aspect of the sport.
“I have made so many friends along the way.”
Cieara has high hopes for her hockey future. She wants to go to a prep school next season and get a scholarship for university.
She says she will continue to follow her hopes and dreams of playing hockey and see where those opportunities take her over the next couple years.
