CLARENVILLE, N.L. — The Clarenville Ford Caribous notched a big win at home on Friday night at the Eastlink Events Centre (EEC), defeating the first-place Gander Flyers 6-2.
The ‘Bous got things rolling less than two minutes into the game, when Chad Earle scored to make it 1-0 Clarenville.
Shortly after the opening tally, Caribou defenceman Brandon Roach scored on a shot from the point.
And before the end of the first period, Keith Delaney found the back of the net — increasing the Caribous’ lead to 3-0.
During the second frame, Clarenville forward Kenny Mahoney finished a pretty pass from Ryan Delaney, and captain Dustin Russell potted a juicy rebound to extend the lead.
Brandon Hynes scored Gander’s first goal of the game right off a faceoff in the Caribous’ zone, making it 5-1.
In the final period, Gander pulled within three goals when Hynes scored his second of the game — but they wouldn’t get any closer.
Caribou Mason Reid answered with a top corner snipe to put it away, winning 6-2.
The ‘Bous outshot the Flyers 38-27.
The Caribous and the Cataracts will face off Saturday night in Grand Falls-Windsor, while the Flyers travel to the Joe Byrne Arena on Sunday for the last game before the midseason break against the Cats.
