Cataracts hand Flyers first hometown loss of the season

GANDER, NL – The Gander Flyers experienced their first hometown loss of the season at the Steele Community Centre on Saturday night.
The Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts bested the Flyers 6-3.
The Cats set to work in the first period, with Klay Kachur and Andrew Brennan picking up goals for the team.
They added three more goals in the second period, with contributions from Danny Wicks, Steve Yetman and Rodi Short.
The Flyers managed to get on the scoreboard in the second period with goals from Mitch Oake and Andrew Ryan.
And in the third Brandon Hynes rallied the fans with a breakaway goal to narrow the gap for the Flyers near the halfway mark of the period.
However all hopes of a win were dashed when Yetman scored an empty netter, his second goal of the night for the Cats.
A noticeable change in the Flyers' roster was the removal of starting goaltender Marc Terriault.
He has been replaced by goal tender Doug Pippy, who didn’t play in tonight’s game. Drew Manuel served as the guardian of the pipes for Saturday’s game.
According to a social media announcement made by the organization, Terriault had been recalled to the active roster of the Saint Mary’s Huskies.
This prevents him from being able to play in the CWSHL for the remainder of the season.
As a replacement the Flyers were allowed to sign Pippy, who served as the backup goaltender for the Herder Champion Conception Bay Ceebees.
Pippy also played with the Southern Shore Breakers and helped the team capture an AESHL title in 2015.
In his junior career, he was a member of the Avalon Jr. Capitals of the SJJHL and he won that league’s top goaltending award and unsung hero award in 2014.
The Flyers and the Cataracts will square off again at the Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium in Grand Falls-Windsor at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
