The Corner Brook Royals couldn’t find the net on Friday night, but couldn’t stay out of it on Saturday.

The West Coast Senior Hockey League club posted a 1-1 record over the weekend, which started with a 5-0 loss to Port aux Basques at the Corner Brook Civic Centre on Friday night.

There was more fighting on display than actual offence, for the most part, in the road win for the Mariners.

Dylan Savory scored three times in the win, with Rick Canning and Steven Lomond each lighting the lamp once.

Ryley Nadon made 42 saves for the shutout win, with Bradley Dyke turning aside 26 shots in the losing cause.

The two teams combined for 150 penalty minutes — 77 for the Royals, 73 for the Mariners — many the result of fighting or misconducts in a chippy affair.

Savory netted an unassisted goal at 6:58 of the first to open the scoring, with a power-play marker from Canning following at 15:40, from Jasper Dicks and Darren Dean, to put the visitors up by two heading into the first intermission.

After a scoreless second, Savory found the back of the net again at 7:10 of the third, from Trent Johanson and Bruce Billard, before completing the hat trick with another unassisted marker at 9:16.

Steve Lomond capped the scoring at 11:42 of the third, on the power play, from Savory.

On Saturday night at the Dome in Stephenville, the Royals struck early and often in a 10-3 triumph over the Jets.

Ryan Hawco provided a pair of goals to the attack, with Luke Pilgrim, Iain Pilgrim, Jonathan Guy, Stephen Gillard, Wilfred Bellows, Tyler Hunt, Daniel Noseworthy, and Matthew Colbourne doing the rest.

Josh White (2) and Shane Columbe replied for the Jets.

Corner Brook led 4-1 after one period, and 6-1 after two, before outscoring the Jets 4-2 in the third period.

It was a significantly tamer contest, with only three minor penalties called.

Jeff Murphy stopped 32 of 35 to earn the win, while Damian Hibbits allowed 10 goals on 66 shots to get charged with the loss.
